Information is included on African American affairs; air raid shelters; the 1940 registration of aliens; birth control; cotton farmers; requests for seats at the executions of those involved in the murder of Capt. Sanders, the captain of the prison guard killed in the Penitentiary riot of 1937; gas rationing; the governor's hour radio program; Ku Klux Klan violence; lawlessness; lynchings; military transfers; new industries; the port of Charleston; requests for a battleship South Carolina; special federal Senate seat elections; the Southern Governors' Conference; and teacher salaries.
