Includes 50 announcer's scripts from the Radio Division, Bureau of Public Relations, National Recovery Administration. Although the scripts are undated, they are probably from 1933-1936. It is likely that Southgate Haynie, a journalist and writer who did work for radio, wrote some or all of the scripts.
This collection is comprised of audio recordings of programs broadcast by Louisville radio station WHAS. The collection is especially strong in documenting a wide range of state, national, and world political figures and news events during the late 1930s, throughout the 1940s, and into the middle 1950s. Entertainment programs include soap operas, musical variety shows, country music, and sporting events such as the Kentucky Derby.

Newborg was program director for WBKY, Beattyville, KY from 1940-1941. The station was created as an experiment in bringing educational radio broadcasts to the remote Appalachian regions of eastern Kentucky.
